12/17/2023 0 Comments Deathspank ps3![]() You’ll eventually learn to keep your distance, but it doesn’t take much to drop your life bar from healthy to dead. The uneven terrain makes it impossible to predict impact points with bazookas and grenades, meaning that you’re just as likely to kill yourself as an opponent. Meanwhile, there are bombs on the battlefield, crates of TNT on the train tracks, and self-destructing robots that will kamikaze your location, and with so much combustible material, splash damage becomes an unpredictable concern. Your first projectile is a semi-automatic pistol and you’ll quickly stockpile an arsenal of grenades, bazookas, and alien ray gun The bullets make it a bit too easy to cut through some of the bad guys, and the melee/ranged attack balance isn’t quite as refined as it was in the original. The emphasis on modern military technology is a bit more problematic. I preferred the humor in the first game, but the quality difference is negligible, and you’re advised to take this as commentary instead of criticism. ![]() That said, there’s no accounting for personal taste, and you may enjoy the sheer absurdity. The historical hodgepodge is generally amusing, but it does create some mixed comedic moment Anachronisms aren’t as funny when everything is out of place, and the game would benefit from some more stable points of reference. The game opens on a WWII battlefield, and you’ll soon be repairing radio towers, sailing on pirate ships, and doing battle with a celebrity chef in front of a panel of Japanese judge Thongs of Virtue opts for a more overtly modern atmosphere. Despite a rather large list of anachronisms, the first DeathSpank maintained a medieval veneer that kept the story grounded. ![]() If you’re wondering what makes Thongs of Virtue different, you need to look towards the subtle alterations in setting and tone. There are numerous pop culture and gaming references laced into the extensive script, and while the reliance on conventional gameplay tricks blunts a few of the jokes, the general silliness always shines through. Like its predecessor, Thongs of Virtue is a self-aware parody of the RPG genre and video game logic in general. Of course, the game’s real appeal lies in the offbeat humor that frequently upstages the action. You can still use fortune cookies to purchase answers to puzzles and you’ll still spend a lot of time running in circles while gobbling down healing platters of pizza and frie The gameplay consists of unremarkable hack-and-slash combat that takes you through a series of colorful monsters and locale You can equip up to four weapons and four items at any given time and all of the other mechanics are unchanged from the original. A fantasy game in which the three main villains are corrupt incarnations of Mother Theresa, Rachel Ray, and Santa Claus has some obvious charm, and Thongs of Virtue manages to drag plenty of punch lines out of the insanity. The plot is a thinly veiled knockoff of the Lord of the Rings, but that’s a fine launch point for satire. DeathSpank was light on plot, and everything you need to know is recapped within the first ten minute You play as DeathSpank, a thong-clad dispenser of justice on a quest to gather and destroy the six Thongs of Virtue in the fires from which they were made. That’s true even if you haven’t played the original. Thongs of Virtue offers nearly 15 hours of gameplay for a mere $15, so you’re practically guaranteed to get your moneys worth out of the title. Developer Hothead has cooked up some new creatures and new environments, and there’s no denying the game’s strong financial value. Is that worth another purchase? It depends, but you could definitely do a lot worse than DeathSpank. Most of what I said then still applies now, and if you liked the first game, you’ll probably like the second, because it’s essentially more of the same. DeathSpank is only a couple of months old, so when faced with DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, I’m tempted to hit copy/paste and recycle my original review from July.

12/17/2023 0 Comments Happy fews streamingArthur’s a happy medium, though each character has a modified skill tree emphasizing their differing play styles. Ollie is much more physically gifted, but he’s slower. But she’s an excellent chemist and can instead whip up syringes full of that good knockout juice. Sally isn’t as strong as Arthur or Ollie, so she can’t sneak up and take down enemies in a traditional manner. Mechanically each character plays differently. The new characters I got the chance to play as were a not-so-slightly crazy Scottish veteran named Ollie, and the brilliant, high society chemist named Sally. It’s all working together to create a rather devastating picture of loss on the strength of these environments. There’s graffiti everywhere calling the establishment liars, sad set pieces full of cribs and childrens toys, and pages of sad stories left to find. And there’s a pervasive sense of psychological damage to go along with that physical battery. ![]() The fields surrounding town were littered with burned out houses and pockmarks, remnants of the war that sparked this whole mess of drug-induced denial. While Arthur’s opening story hadn’t changed much, once he eventually gets out of Wellington Wells and through the city limits, he discovers a scarred world on the outside. ![]() Each character is deeply broken, damaged, or threatened in their own way. ![]() The time spent retooling and refining We Happy Few certainly shows. Much of the experience was the same, but what struck me this time was the polish and detail put into this section since the last time I’d seen it. As a refresher I replayed the opening of Arthur – the bumbling reluctant hero who works at the Wellington Well’s propaganda ministry – as he decides enough is enough and tosses his required dose of the psychedelic drug Joy. 12/17/2023 0 Comments Discovery pro nord![]() PADsynth re-synthesis - Generating incredibly beautiful sounds from WAVE waveforms and imported waves. (mostly because of heavy Adobe Apps) If you are like me, you want to know how much of your precious memory you have left, so as not to launch that one extra application that crashes your machine and causes you to lose unsaved work. This comes standard with every new Mac running OS X.īeing involved with web design, and design in general, I find myself needing to monitor my memory usage on a daily basis. In this day of soldered-in system RAM and SSDs, it is difficult to decide what to buy. This is a quick way to have easy visual access to your memory usage without having to rely on a Dashboard Widget, or even have Dashboard running for that matter. But I would have happily bought it with 8 GB if that was not an option, and it will perform great either way. Personally, I was willing to spend the extra money for 16 GB in my retina MacBook Pro, even though it uses one of the fastest SSDs on the market. But it is not as much of a necessity, so don’t fret if you can only buy 4 GB. It is wise to buy enough system RAM to handle your needs, even if your computer uses an SSD. After all, a computer only needs to be “fast enough” for the user to be satisfied, and the lifespan of the SSD is probably not as much concern as lifespan of the battery! These are true statements, but should be taken with a grain of salt. And SSDs don’t last forever, so excessive page-outs actually reduce the lifespan of your computer. This begs the question if SSD-equipped computers need as much system RAM.Įven though SSDs are much faster than hard drives, they are slower than main system memory. This is one reason that the meager 2 GB or 4 GB of RAM found in a MacBook Air doesn’t impact performance as much as one would think. Reboot, run your system normally for a few days, then check Activity Monitor. There is no hard and fast rule, but if the number is higher than a gigabyte or two over a few days use you ought to consider getting more memory! What About SSDs?įast solid-state storage (SSD) drives reduce the impact of page outs. It’s fine to dip into it occasionally, but excessive use will cause trouble! Since it is much slower than RAM, disk space should be thought of as “overdraft protection” for your system memory. “Page outs” in Activity Monitor shows how much memory has been needed but not available since your system last started up. If you have many GB of “Page outs”, you should consider getting more RAM! This is the clue you need to know if your system has insufficient memory. At the bottom, next to the pie chart of memory in use, you will see a “Page outs” value. In Activity Monitor, click on the System Memory tab. You will find this under Applications in the Utilities folder, and it shows you all Certs of useful information about CPU, memory, disk, and network activity. On Mac OS X, the easiest way to see if you have enough memory is simply to open the Activity Monitor application. ![]() Is your system constrained with two little memory, or is it just slow? It can be difficult for the uninitiated to answer this question, but it’s not too difficult to see if your system is swapping excessively: most operating systems will tell you how many “page outs” the system has needed to do, and this is a very strong clue as to whether you have enough memory or not. Main system RAM is used by running programsīut the lines blur in reality, with modern operating systems able to use disk storage for running applications. Although using disk as memory (a process called paging or virtual memory swapping) allows your system to have effectively infinite RAM, it often slows down performance to an unacceptable level. Most people are aware that computers contain at least two different kinds of memory: In this article, I will present an easy method for even a computer novice to know whether he has enough memory on his Mac!
